Comment
The hotel is just a few minutes' stroll from the main railway station (we travelled by train). The multi-lingual staff are effusively friendly and extremely helpful. Although I speak German, it would not have mattered if I didn't. Continental breakfast is extensive. It includes hot scrambled eggs, small sausages and bacon for those who wish it.
Top Tip
Although the hotel does not have its own restaurant, there a scores within easy walking distance, and the hotel staff will recommend estabishments for whatever type of cuisine the traveller prefers. The hotel bar is small but surprisingly reasonably priced. The barman (a PhD student at the university) is good value! For a first visit to the city we advise the "hour-long" boat trip to Rodenkirchen (where you can stop off for sightseeing and a meal if you wish). The ticket is cheaper (€6.80) from the tourist office opposite the cathedral than from the boat operator. The stained glass in the cathedral is wondrous.
